CPR Aquafuge ($105 from MarineDepot) In an effort to regulate my nitrates and to add an area for micro-organisms to thrive, I recently added a CPR Aquafuge H.O.T. (hang on tank) Refugium to my 125. I set up the refugium with a 3.5" deep sand bed, a couple pounds of live rock rubble, and several varieties of macro algae. As the macro algae's take hold, I'm seeing a slow but noticeable decrease in my nitrates. Thus far, my only complaint is that the unit could use a bit more bracing and a stronger pump. With this in mind, I replaced the RIO 600 with a Maxijet 1200 (200gph vs 300pgh) and added CPR light stands. The lights stands fit snugly on the top of the unit providing additional bracing. I lit the refugium with a 65 watt Aqualight 6.7k PC fixture.
